AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Series Expected to Sell Like “Hot Cakes,” Japanese Retailers Say

The Ryzen 9000X3D Series, a new lineup of desktop processors that will combine the power of AMD's new Zen 5 architecture with 3D V-Cache technology to deliver what will presumably be a new level of performance for gamers, creators, and other users, will sell like hot cakes whenever they are released, according to new comments that Japanese retailers have shared on the eve of the release of the Ryzen 9000 Series, including the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X, which are available beginning today for $449 and $649, respectively.

If the non X3D models are no faster than the 7000 series, is there any expectation X3D will be any faster? If it’s not faster, why expect strong sales?

Two points:

The 9000-series is faster, just not much in gaming. The productivity lead will push anyone with dual-use to the newer SKUs, and it's possible that things like AI acceleration and AVX512 could become more useful for gaming going forward. Basically, if price were the same, we'd all just get the 9000-series.

Then aside from the new cores, AMD has upped the packaging and appears to have made other improvements to deal with cooling. Therefore, while the non-X3D parts simply run cooler, the 9000X3D parts should actually have an advantage over the 7000X3D parts by virtue of being less clock-limited. This should increase performance in gaming a bit, but the bigger part would be that they shouldn't be much if any slower than the non-X3D parts.

Combined, and depending on how everything else shakes out, at least the 9800X3D and 9950X3D are expected to be good releases. Still to be seen if AMD can make the 9900X3D (dual six-CCD part with one six-CCD X3D die) attractive though.
 
Do actual hot cakes still sell like crazy? Has that ever actually been true? What even is a "hot cake"?
