  2. AMD Confirms Pricing for Ryzen 9000 Series Processors, including Ryzen 9 9950X for $649

Nice - if power isn’t a concern to you, can I interest you in joining a distributed computing team?
  3. Ad-Free Tier of Disney+ Will Soon Cost More than Double What It Was at Launch

personally I’ve liked all the marvel series I’ve watched, and i very much enjoyed Loki. The Star Wars series have been decent (I quite like the mandalorian) though I haven’t watched the acolyte. I would have never seen Deadpool or Deadpool 2 if not for Disney+ either, so I’ve caught some good...
  4. Ad-Free Tier of Disney+ Will Soon Cost More than Double What It Was at Launch

I don’t care what they charge, I’m in at the ad free tier. I take away Disney from the kids and there would be a full revolt
  5. Half-Life 3 Rumors Swirl as Voice Actor Reveals “Project White Sands,” a New Game in Development at Valve

Could very much be like Baulder’s gate 3. Callbacks to 2, but no need to have played it to follow the story
  6. ADATA Unveils World’s First PCIe Gen5 SSD with Micro-Fan That’s Powered Directly Through the M.2 Slot

Z nailed it. Capacity and sequential performance are not what I’m looking for. I want better 4k random performance, and the frustrating part is that the technology exists but no one is using it. Even if optane never comes back, low latency SLC would offer more than double the 4k random speed...
  7. ADATA Unveils World’s First PCIe Gen5 SSD with Micro-Fan That’s Powered Directly Through the M.2 Slot

From 2006 to 2012 I shared an office with the guy who did all the support for the high end developer workstations. They did custom builds until 2010 and then moved to HP Xeon systems. Constant stream of machines with grinding NB fans that the devs wanted fixed. Before that, during college I...
  8. ADATA Unveils World’s First PCIe Gen5 SSD with Micro-Fan That’s Powered Directly Through the M.2 Slot

How long will it last? Even in a clean environment, most chipset fans only last a year. I’d guess this size fan will be dead in 3 months

For those that must have 50 million ppd in folding at home

I just dropped a 5700x3d in my old x470 board I bought in 2018 with a 2700x. 10/10 would do again, very happy with the long legs of the MB
  11. Netflix Begins Phasing Out Its Cheapest Ad-Free Plan

Good point. My cost for internet service has dropped several times. I used to pay 129/month for gigabit. It dropped to 99, and now it’s 65. My mobile phone used to be 70 / line for 2GB, now it’s 35/line for 10GB.
  12. Netflix Begins Phasing Out Its Cheapest Ad-Free Plan

How much did a pentium 100 cost on release day vs a 7950? How much did you pay per MHz? How much do you pay per inch for a monitor? A TV? What about cost per MB for storage? Plenty of things get cheaper over time
  13. New Apple Feature Requires 16 GB of Memory Despite Company Saying 8 GB Is Enough for Many Tasks

Counter point. My wife can seamlessly move music, data, and whatever she wants between any of her iDevices. I used to have to do endless tech support with just total junk android stuff (don’t get me started on her Note 3), her windows laptop, and the kodi box for home theater. She had a Mac...
  14. Cyberpunk 2077 Development Fully Ceases 3.5 Years After Release

Paradox would disagree that development needs to eventually end. How many Stellaris expansions have there been?
  15. Logitech Unveils Its Most Portable Keyboard Ever

I’m not sure I’ve ever had a keyboard fail. I still have a 1990(ish) IBM AT mechanical keyboard that works with a PS/2 adapter, but adding a PS/2 to USB to the chain doesn’t work. I used that Keyboard until I got a Logitech G710+ with MX Blues. I haven’t used anything wireless, and the...
  16. Star Wars: The Acolyte Premieres on Disney+ with a 94% Tomatometer Score

What if I was a star wars fan, was broken by The Last Jedi, and now just watch for fancy light saber fights and pew pew?
  17. Jonsbo Launches M.2 2280 SSD Active Cooler with Dual Heat Pipes and a 10,000 RPM Fan

In all honesty, it’s max 1.5 CFM. That puppy isn’t going anywhere compared to the 10k rpm whine.
  18. Jonsbo Launches M.2 2280 SSD Active Cooler with Dual Heat Pipes and a 10,000 RPM Fan

Not even 40mm at 10k? Yeah, that fans dead in 6 months
  19. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Celebrates Its 7th Anniversary

the last multi GPU system I did was 670 SLI. When I was Shopping the 900 series, an Anandtech article convinced me to go with the largest card first, and then if I still had a use case go SLI. I bought a 980 and it was good enough until I bought a 1080ti. To be honest I kind of lament the...
  20. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Celebrates Its 7th Anniversary

I gave away my 1080ti to a friend 2 months ago, and it upgraded his 1660 Super. That card is probably going to live another 3 years in his machine - almost certainly the longest lived card I’ll have ever used.
