  1. Noctua Launches Its Next-Gen NF-A14x25 G2 Square-Frame 140mm Flagship Fans

Their customer service is amazing. I've had one of the original DH 15s forever - bought it on as part of a Black Friday build I did in 2014, as I don't like to water cool my NAS (I'm rarely in the same room as the system). I've gotten 2 different mounting brackets for it from customer service...
  2. NVIDIA App Beta Adds G-SYNC Controls, RTX HDR Multi-Monitor Support, and More

Oh no, not a website download! ;) I see no particular advantage to an App Store - I’m perfectly capable of installing without one. I get that Microsoft would like to skim off of every purchase as well as watch everything you use at a finer grain than they already could, but I don’t really see...
  3. Most Gamers Prefer Single-Player Games, New Research Reveals

Baulder’s gate 3 is an excellent example of a single player game (even if it has a multi player option). The voice over work is something that isn’t well done by modders either, and i would have no problem buying a BG3 expansion. Doesn’t seem like that is in the cards though.
  4. Noctua Launches Its Next-Gen NF-A14x25 G2 Square-Frame 140mm Flagship Fans

I’m building a new system when the 9950x3d releases, and I will be watercooling it, but to a lesser degree. I’m likely to pickup some of these new fans, though I likely won’t be splitting them 8 ways, I probably will split them 2 ways.
  5. Linux in Windows any good?

WSL is fine for all that, as long as you don't care about running a UI. You'll get all the terminal stuff you can handle. Do all your scripting from vim if you feel extra spicy.
  6. Microsoft Wants to Know Why Some Developers Aren’t Interested in Xbox

I’m right there with you. The last time I wanted a platform for a specific game was a Sega Genesis for Sonic and mortal kombat. I did pickup a Wii to play a few games with the wife, and that was my only console purchase since the genesis. This year, according to Steam, I’ve played: Baulder’s...
  7. Linux in Windows any good?

On my typical work day, I’m Spending 75% of my time in a WSL terminal window using Oracle Linux 8.8. There are some things that don’t “work out of the box” like system d, but lots of stuff does. The file systems are mounted so you can access your Linux file system in windows, and your windows...
  8. Linux in Windows any good?

Are you talking WSL? I have ton of experience with that, and it’s awesome
  9. “Eye Cancer”: PS5 Homescreen Now Features Full-Page Ads, with No Way to Remove Them, Players Say

does pihole drop the ads? Edit - if there was ever anything I wanted out of AI, it's AI for pihole to identify and drop more ads.
  10. A $700 PC Can’t Compete with the PS5 Pro, Battlefield’s Vince Zampella Says: “It’s an Amazing Thing”

You really need a controller for something like street fighter or mortal combat. I bought one a long long time ago for my PC to Play fighter ports, but I never really kept up with it. I should really see if I there are better ports of games like that for PC…
  11. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D May Be Out as Early as Next Month, Followed by the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D with “New Features”

When performance Epyc has more than 8 cores per CCD, that’s probably when we see it on the consumer side.
  12. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090/5080 Specifications Leak, Revealing 32 GB of 512-Bit GDDR7 Memory and 600-Watt Power Spec for Flagship “Blackwell” Gami...

I’m ready to be at the leading edge of the video card cycle again. I got the 1080ti on release day and it was awesome. The 3080ti took forever to get, and by the time I got it it wasn’t that long until the 4000 series dropped. I should have just waited the extra 9 months and got a 4090
  13. Power Supplies Featuring Two 12V-2×6 Connectors Spark Rumors That NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Will Require Two of The 600W Connectors

If there is going to be a Titan slotted above the 5090, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2 connectors. High power 5090s like the old EVGA Kingpin would be another candidate
  14. Microsoft Has Cut a Deal to Fulfill Its AI Datacenter Needs with Nuclear Power from Three Mile Island

Fusion is the future. I just wish we would chase it a little harder
  15. Microsoft Has Cut a Deal to Fulfill Its AI Datacenter Needs with Nuclear Power from Three Mile Island

In a cloud sense, it really means a multi Availability Zone deployment, and ideally a warm standby in another region. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve worked with a company willing to spend that much for 5 9s of availability.
  16. Microsoft Has Cut a Deal to Fulfill Its AI Datacenter Needs with Nuclear Power from Three Mile Island

As far as I understand, many of the data centers are actually not owned by the big cloud providers. DC specific companies lease the space to the cloud providers and provide the staff to rack and stack. So, there is actually quite a bit of money in the data centers themselves.
  17. Samsung Begins Mass Production of PCle 5.0 SSD with Industry’s Highest Performance and Largest Capacity

I have always wondered how a a 4 drive raid 0 array of old 64gb Intel X25-E drives would compare to a cheap 256gb nvme drive
  18. Samsung Begins Mass Production of PCle 5.0 SSD with Industry’s Highest Performance and Largest Capacity

This might be the first generation of NVME drives I skip if there isn’t much increase in 4k random. I bought a 4TB 990 pro for games, and shifted my old game drive ( 2TB 980pro ) to an OS drive. I don’t need more space, and I don’t really know how I would take advantage of more drives.
  19. NVIDIA Says It Can’t Do Computer Graphics Anymore Without AI: “The Performance Is Incredible”

I mean, maybe someday the models will be able to infer at 100% accuracy, but my playing with DLSS on my 3080ti says it’s not there right now. I’d rather have higher end hardware generating the full frame, then go with lower end hardware + artifacts, even if it’s the same FPS.
