In all fairness this is the first "tiled" silicon CPU that Intel put out. The 1000 series Ryzen weren't all that good. 2000 series saw a good jump, and 3000 was a large jump. AMD just has years of product improvement under their belt. Intel will catch up, possibly.

I agree with this. Going from a 3700X to a 5700X3D I saw a nice bump in frames and higher lows while gaming at 2560x1440, everything else on the system remained the same. I tend to keep quality high, except for MP shooters (PUBG, COD). I never felt CPU bound, but something is clearly helping.

GN covers this a bit. When he does cooler testing he has that laser imaging machine that shows the flatness of cooler bases and CPU IHS's. They tend to show the IHS to be concave. I wonder if it would be beneficial to lap the IHS and water block base. I did that on my old Q6600 back in the day...

There's a lot of surface area on a GPU water block to remove heat from. CPU waterblocks are rather small in comparison. I could see a bigger CPU block, that also covers the VRM's as well, being an option. But since there is no layout standard they would be very expensive. Especially when each...

5700X3D's are still in abundance. And it's not far off in performance from the 5800X3D. Definitely a lot cheaper as well.

I'm done chasing bleeding edge. The cost versus the return is no longer justified, for me. Once these 5000 series cards drop I'll most likely pick up a used 4090.

It is relevant, and I didn't single out you. People are complaining about the potential power draw on these 5000 series cards. There are costs when it comes to playing at the bleeding edge.

If you're concerned about power draw then go AMD. Otherwise deal with it. No one buys a supercar for the fuel economy.
