  1. Xbox Series X/S’s 1 TB Storage Expansion Cards Cost $220

That's basically Samsung pricing. Probably not Samsung quality, of course, but if the drives can keep up it's not too out to lunch. Would definitely like to see prices on higher-capacity expansion cards though!
  2. Cyberpunk 2077 PC System Requirements Revealed

Those 'recommended' settings seem a bit low, like they're meant for running the game well with all the settings set to low too...
  3. Cherry Wants to Kill Rubber-Dome Keyboards with its New, Low-Cost "Viola" Mechanical Switch

Reliability is one factor, performance in terms of repeatability for typists where the actuation point is the same is another, and speed for others is also in there. I use 'dome' keyboards at work, we use what we're given -- so it's not that they don't do what we need them to either.
  4. Cherry Wants to Kill Rubber-Dome Keyboards with its New, Low-Cost "Viola" Mechanical Switch

I just want to see them make an actually quiet integrated switch. Like a rubber dome hybrid. I want to feel it, but not hear it.
  5. NVIDIA Releases CES Game Ready Driver with Max Frame Rate Capping Feature

Very nice development I agree -- framerate capping is literally the only reason I use RTSS right now!
  6. VIZIO to Challenge LG Display in the OLED Market with its First-Ever 55" and 65" 4K OLED TVs

But, like Sony, are they buying the panels from LG?
  7. AMD Announces Press Conference at CES: Company to “Push the Envelope Yet Again” in 2020

Could always use tasteful Polos for work. So few places are interested in those...
  8. Trying to improve gaming audio quality

Here's a description straight from the source: the MX [Black | Red] Silent switches are slightly quieter versions of the standard MX Black and MX Red switches. The difference between the two is the spring weight, where the MX Black switches have stronger springs. As for 'quiet', while the MX...
  9. AMD Intends to Deliver Higher-than-Average IPC Gains with Each New Generation of Zen

Yup, that's what I'm getting at: Intel may be able to get eight or ten cores into a socket that are significantly faster than Skylake and Zen 2, but using more than around ten cores is going to be a problem.
  10. Trying to improve gaming audio quality

One example of Ducky, full-size with many different switches available: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=4332 I have one of these as my main. Even with Corsair's Doubleshot PBT keys and with O-rings installed, it's not nearly as solid or quiet as the Ducky I...
  11. Samsung Unveils 49" Gaming Monitor with DQHD (5120×1440) Panel and 240 Hz Refresh Rate

In the 49" super-ultrawide class, I don't think so. They do have a smaller OLED coming, 48" I believe, and while that's 16:9, it'll be a 120Hz VRR panel so it'd be hard to pass up.
  12. Samsung Unveils 49" Gaming Monitor with DQHD (5120×1440) Panel and 240 Hz Refresh Rate

VRR isn't a 'must'; it's less necessary the higher the framerate, assuming that framerate is consistent i.e. consistently low frametimes. Obviously it'd be a glaring omission on any high-end display though. The bigger issue is that the VA 'inky blacks' tend to get smeared to hell regardless of...
  13. AMD Intends to Deliver Higher-than-Average IPC Gains with Each New Generation of Zen

I think Intel's contingency to backport Skylake's successor architecture to 14nm might shed some light. If they're able to keep the +10% to +15% IPC they've shown with Ice Lake while also keeping the ~5GHz clockspeeds, they might have something -- you know, at least for less multithreaded...
  14. Trying to improve gaming audio quality

I wish this were true. It isn't. So much goes into the caps, the backplate, the stabilizers... yeah. You need to start with a solid base, otherwise you're going to have a clacky mess no matter what you do. Of course, you probably shouldn't start with MX Blue switches either :)
  15. Trying to improve gaming audio quality

Look at Ducky's keyboards, bought one for the wife for Christmas and it surprised me how solid and quiet it is -- with the same switches as other keyboards. Many mechanicals, including anything you'd get at Best Buy, have a lot of key 'clatter' that has nothing to do with the switches...
  16. Trying to improve gaming audio quality

So, you can absolutely get a shock mount and an arm for a Blue Snowball Ice, which is a cardoid mic. Look at Amazon's recommendations on their listing for the mic: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006DIA77E/?tag=thefpsreview-20 And also the recommendations with this arm, which list a suspension...
  17. AMD Intends to Deliver Higher-than-Average IPC Gains with Each New Generation of Zen

I don't think this is 'plausible', outright, because Zen 2 was mostly the culmination of AMDs efforts to get the Zen cores actually fed. I take this as AMD claiming that they're actually pulling more IPC out of the Zen cores themselves, not just increasing the various on-package cache amounts...
  18. Sony Announces A7R IV: Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera with 61-Megapixel Sensor

Post 1. I'm a Techreport refugee, so what's up! The biggest advantage that the A7R IV brings over the A7R III is the tracking abilities from other Sony cameras- the A9 and the A6400. This is massive for general subject shooting. Beyond that, the upgraded battery life, ergonomics, and weather...
