NVIDIA has already released three versions of the GeForce RTX 3060, but it appears that isn't enough. According to the latest rumors from T4C Fantasy, NVIDIA is planning to release another, fourth version of the Ampere graphics card aimed at budget-oriented gamers that features the GA104 GPU (as opposed to the GA106 GPU) and upgraded memory in the form of GDDR6X (12 GB). The GeForce RTX 3060 starts at $329, and it's considered one of the more unique Ampere SKUs, as NVIDIA never bothered releasing a Founders Edition for it. Complementing the GeForce RTX 3060 are the Titanium versions, both of which max out at 8 GB of memory.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Models (copy-pasted from article):
  • GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB GDDR6: GA106-300
  • GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB GDDR6 LHR: GA106-302
  • GeForce RTX 3060 8 GB GDDR6: GA106-302
  • GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB GDDR6X: GA104 (New)
It's a new NVIDIA-only feature. The unified naming convention not only reduces confusion among consumers, but also simplifies game marketing and distribution. Example:

Minimum System Requirements
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

Recommended System Requirements
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

Coming soon (April 1):
  • GeForce RTX 3060 16 GB GDDR6X: AD103 (New)
  • GeForce RTX 3060 24 GB GDDR6X: AD102 (New)

As ridiculous as it is this would follow precedents from the 10 and 20 series cards. I pasted the following from Wiki so many times over the years it's practically bookmarked from my searches now. I also included the 1050 cards because it's not uncommon to happen with them as well.

I could've sworn there was another 2060 that came out last year but I'm not positive about that.

If they downgrade performance without changing the name, then shame - but otherwise, hard to complain about greater potential availability.

Well, this is true. But you can complain that it's last gen availability, and not current gen 4060...
