Graphics card manufacturers are shipping many new products, so occasional mishaps in production are expected to happen. One Reddit user noticed “some little slips of blue” while inspecting their new PowerColor Radeon 6700 XT and discovered that adhesive tape was still on the cooling pads. Fortunately, this is an easy fix, but it could have potentially impacted the performance and lifespan of the card. It is unknown how this detail slipped past final inspection before shipping, but it is hopefully nothing more than a one-off.

Sighs. Someone hit the vape a little too hard before their shift started....

Well, I did that once with a NVME. This seems excessive, but I guess things happen

I wouldn't buy a PowerColor GPU even if it was the only thing available anyway. Their warranty is sub-par.

Someone just took a swandive off a building in China.

I actually made that mistake with a under the cpu socket Coldplate for my ad 3100+ cpu I got back in the day.. I was like.. why is this running so **** hot.. it was a piece of plastic on the heat transfer pad you were supposed to remove. Who knew plastic was a great insulator. ;)

For what it's worth, during the pandemic, I had done a number of different configurations as I revived an old rig for WFH, and along the way, I did notice I'd forgotten to take off a couple of strips on an older GPU backplate(Strix 1080ti). However, that was more of a cosmetic thing than something that could pose a potential danger for the card but I still had a facepalm moment. The funny thing is that I used to really OC that thing and brag about what great temps it had.

On that note, there was someone seemingly, nervously, responding in the Reddit threads from PowerColor. I scrolled through it and saw a couple of responses but nothing really conclusive in regards to any comment to the buyer other than 'where'd you get that bro?". Kind of odd since occasionally a manufacturer will respond in a more official capacity when things get larger coverage. Haven't checked back but maybe someone has by now.
