The timing probably could not have been better for the launch of the 8-core/16-thread processor which debuted AMD's 2nd gen 3D V-cache. Regardless of which side of the fence PC enthusiasts may've been on, and also including 1st-time builders, it's become obvious many were at least considering moving to an AM5 platform, and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D pretty much sealed the deal once launched, and everyone saw its impressive performance.

I mean.... why not. AMD is cranking these out reactively quickly where the hunt while it happens for on line in stock isn't as terrible. And resellers scalping isn't as prevalent.
 
Honestly it seems like Intel is somewhat asleep at the wheel and giving it away for top-end CPUs much the same way both have given up for top-end GPUs thus allowing NVIDIA to rule there. I have doubts about if AMD is motivated for a 9800X3D successor any time soon with no competition to rival it. I want to be wrong about this though.

I have a feeling AMD is holding on to the 9900/9950 X3D parts to see if Intel drops something or releases a BIOS/driver update to increase performance of their existing chips. Then AMD can drop the bomb on them with stock ready to ship. And if Intel doesn't then the new parts release end of March as originally planned.
 
Intel did drop some updates but they didn't make the waves some were expecting. I was hoping they would but didn't really happen. I didn't do a post on it but it was about a month ago if I remember correctly.
