AMD is still a day away from launching its mid-range assault on NVIDIA's GeForce GTX series, but the first products have already begun showing up at retailers. These include XFX's 8 GB RX 5500 XT Thicc II Pro and Sapphire's 8 GB Radeon Nitro+ RX 5500 XT, which can currently be pre-ordered for around $230 (the 4 GB variants should be available for $169 or so). The pricing isn't all that impressive when previous-gen products (e.g., Polaris) are put into account, however.

AMD’s Navi 14 graphics card need to compete with five Geforce GTX 16 graphics cards, but they are not alone in this fight. The RX 500 series are still doing great, thanks to 20-35% price reduction. You can easily find 8GB cards for as less as 136 USD. There might be a very cozy spot waiting for Radeon RX 5600 XT at 249 USD, whenever it arrives.

Hmm...

5500XT supposedly equals about a RX580 (well, AMD said "15% better than a 480", which is a +/- =580 performance). This is about what the 580's cost when they were first released, MSRP-wise (not going to compare it to recent fire sale inventory clearances)

Yeah I agree - pricing isn't really moving the needle - you get same performance for about the same price. This could be another of those ploys where AMD doesn't really want you to buy this specific card - they want to sell them to the OEMs and get you to buy something else.

Well it comes down to performance obviously.

from reviews it looks like it directly competes with 1650 Super and 1660 non-super. Price and performance wise.

For the price what do you expect it to do?

So the quick summary I would say, #1 for value is the 1660 Super.. everything else is a wash / toss up AMD or Nvidia.
Should AMD aggressively persue their adpative resolution tech, the 5500 series should age very well.
Should AMD sweeten the deal with games and such, it would edge Nvidia in value a little bit.
Hopefully the updates to their adaptive res come hard and fast.
Nvidia does have those studio drivers, AMD hasn't matched that, they should.
