AMD will launch its next cutting-edge CPU and GPU architectures, Zen 4 and RDNA 3, by the end of 2022. This is according to hardware leaker Broly_X1, who tweeted that red team will debut both advances in Q4 2022, with RDNA 3 being taped out later this year. Broly_X1 recently leaked much of what AMD had to share during its Computex keynote, as well as assets pertaining to tomorrow’s Radeon Pro launch.

Huh interesting. Am I wrong here or is that timing evident of then letting current demand be met with current chips as they grow in margin. Not to mention all of the console demand to meet first ans give tsmc time to ramp up new fabs.

That seems to be the case, and a push back from earlier reports of a Q2 release. If Intel isn’t hot on your heels, why not get some extra mileage out of Zen 3 and take a little time to build up stock of zen 4. Heck, it would be awesome if Zen 4 TR could launch about the same time as the mainstream desktop chips.

I think it's more in the line of no capacity at TSMC for the time beeing at a new node until apple moves on to the next one.

This is my understanding as well. Apple is already on 5nm and has been for a while. You won't get anything 5nm until they build out more fab capacity, and that's coming, but the timeline for that is pretty much exactly what AMD is laying out here.

I think if AMD could jump to 5nm yesterday, they would have. The capacity shortfall is crunching them more than helping them - they are selling everything they can make now, and if they could make more, they almost certainly would.

Or, that you could just buy them.
