MicroCenter has announced that it will exclusively carry the limited edition AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D processor which will launch on July 7. It was only a couple of weeks ago that a leak suggested that AMD was prepping its next Ryzen 5 AM4 offering for a July release but at the time it was not expected to be a retailer exclusive. At $229.99 this 6-core/12-thread processor will be roughly $60 less than the 8-core/16-threaded 5800X3D which has been hovering around $289 in recent weeks.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D appears to be a bit more power-hungry than its non-X3D counterpart as its TDP is 40W higher than the 5600X at 105W vs 65W. Additionally, the base clock is 300 Hz slower, boost is also reduced by 200 Hz, but the L3 cache has jumped from 32 MB to 96 MB. Meanwhile, MicroCenter has dropped the price of the 5600X down to $147.98.
