Early benchmarks for AMD's highly anticipated 16-core Ryzen chip are rolling in. Wccftech, which managed to get some exclusive numbers, found that the 3950X put up an equal fight with Intel's Core i9-9980XE on stock settings in Cinebench R20, sustaining an all-core boost of 3.9 GHz.

It appears to achieve a 32% performance increase over the 1950X. Additional results from 3DMark suggest that the Ryzen will perform up to 24% faster than Intel's flagship HEDT part, the Core i9-10980XE.

Performance per dollar is where AMD's 3950X truly manages to shine. While the 9980XE delivers a measly 4.46 points per dollar, and the estimated Core i9-10980Xe will deliver 9.19 points per dollar, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X delivers a double-digit 11.73 points per dollar. This is great news for consumers because it shows just how far performance per dollar has come in the last couple of years; offering a nearly 3x speedup in perf/$ compared to the old era.

Although Wccftech news can only be taken with a grain of salt, this is looking exciting for the future of high performance CPUs. AMD is definitely bringing the competition to Intel at the top end.

Even if this is wrong the reality is I am giving AMD my money this go around.
