Well, this is better than making the laptops function more like tablets
The hardware isn't very different any longer, they really just need to expand window support a bit more (ipadOS only allows a few static window configurations now, and they are fairly silly) and allow you to use a mouse/trackpad. The lack of proper mouse/trackpad support is really head scratching - I know they really want you to use the touchscreen and most things have an interface assuming touch .. but not like mice and touchscreens haven't been co-existing for a really long time already.
