ASRock has announced a Thunderbolt 4 add-in-card (AIC) for Intel 500 series motherboard systems that can connect a 5K/60Hz display or two 4K/60Hz displays over a single cable and supports daisy-chaining of up to five Thunderbolt devices. External connectors include 2 x Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports, 1 x TBT header, 2 x DisplayPort In ports, and 1 x USB 2.0 header. It also supports charging USB PD 2.0 charging up to 9V@3A (27W). Shame it's Intel-Only :(
And 500-series only. Curious.
Must be part of the controller is nestled into the Chipset.
It's almost certainly tied into the chipset; even though it's PCIe 3.0, there's likely plenty of Intel-specific communication going on between the chipset on the card and the host system chipset.

Still, it would be nice to see a generic card, and I suspect that USB 4 add-in-cards will be more prolific than Thunderbolt cards have been.

It'd also be nice to see a basic built-in GPU, but of course that's a pipe dream in the current market!
