Windows 10 users are being warned not to install Microsoft's latest Windows 10 update, KB4512941, which was released a few days ago. While optional, the patch reportedly results in higher CPU usage.

The culprit is said to be Cortana, or, more specifically, its SearchUI.exe process. With KB4512941, the search assistant takes over an entire processor core, resulting in worse performance.

This isn’t the first time that Microsoft has messed things with its Windows 10 update. A few months ago, some updates broke compatibility with a number of Anti-virus programs. Not only that, but another Win10 update – that came out in April – also brought some performance issues.

sooo ... can you just turn Cortana off and call it good?

Yes, you can.
Start->Run->gpedit.msc
Navigate to Local Computer Policy->Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Search
Right click "Allow Cortana" and click Edit.
Click on "Disabled" radio button.
Click OK.
Exit gpedit.msc app.
Reboot.
