According to Kotaku’s sources, Blizzard has canceled Ares, its first-person shooter set in the StarCraft universe. The game was scrapped because the Diablo and Overwatch franchises required additional resources.

One source called it “Battlefield in the StarCraft universe.” Players would have fought Zerg as a Terran marine, although there were plans to make Zerg playable as well.

Ares first entered development in 2017 as an experiment to see what the team could do with StarCraft on the Overwatch engine. An engine is a suite of tools and reusable code that developers use to make games, and Blizzard has been hoping to move as many games as possible on the same technology in order to make their infamously slow game productions more efficient.

I thought they had canceled Ghost a long time ago... like 2006 or so.

This seemed like a newer attempt at something similar to StarCraft Ghosts or whatever it was called.
