Gaming monitors with even faster refresh rates could be on the horizon thanks to the latest developments from BOE, a display manufacturer headquartered in China.

According to a report shared on one of Sina’s aggregators, BOE has successfully produced a 27-inch, Full HD (1080p) panel that’s capable of refresh rates of over 500 Hz. Leveraging BOE’s new oxide semiconductor display technology, the display is said to offer true 8-bit output and one-millisecond response time.

“BOE has overcome the industry’s problems such as easy diffusion, easy oxidation and easy drilling of [copper] by designing a unique new stack structure of copper interconnection layered wiring oxide,” a portion of the article describing the company’s new breakthroughs in materials reads.

“It has mastered the independent high-volume Cu buffer layer technology, and took the...

Are there a bevy of people wanting insane refresh rate 1080p displays? Did I miss a memo that we're going back to 1080p for the high end gaming?

Or people miss the days of gaming on those sweet sweet 600Hz plasma's.

If only there was a way to get a 600Hz signal to them!

Same for this display, and here's hoping that 'desktop OLEDs' start pushing higher than 120Hz (and that they fix the subpixel pattern so that text doesn't look like arse)

It's just the competitive FPS players that want 1080P, 27" and potato mode graphics that want such displays. 2560x1440 is becoming for more common among the general gamers.

This is basically playing pong on steroids. Not to say that I can't still appreciate what can be done at 1080p but the minimal amount of graphical quality needed in order to pull off 500 fps would be ludicrous to say the least. Even a 3090 paired with the fastest Intel processor and memory is not going to be able to do that with much of anything outside of pong.

The thing about those plasma's that was appealing the lack of motion bluring. Not that you need to pump out 600 FPS to enjoy it. You don't. But in a fast paced shooter, where you're moving the mouse around a lot, the lack of bluring is great.

I love watching fast paced action flicks on my plasma. Yeah, the 4k in my living room looks better, but the face paced scenes look better on the plasma.
