A silicon startup company has announced the world’s first molecular beverage printer. The Cana One beverage printer is capable of making anything from iced coffee or tea to hard seltzer or a cocktail. It will even let you customize your drinks to personal tastes. Choices include things such as how many grams of sugar, adding vitamins to the mix, the amount of caffeine or alcohol, and even the flavor intensity. With the name I was expecting it to be some weed-related product.

Yea I'm not putting a machine in my home to make drinks that charges me per drink. No thanks.

Actually not the first one I've seen, but the simplest one.

What I've seen look more like a "nude" wide carriage dot matrix printer.

BTW I hadn't even read the article and I figured it was some sort of barman as a service.

Yeah, that was a major put off for me as well.

I know what you mean. I do like the overall design but that's about as far as it goes. I'll give them props for design but the business model needs improving.

I doubt something like this will take off on its own. I'd almost be willing to bet hard cash that years down the road Coke, Pepsi, or some such, will release their own version that locks people into some kind of service. At that point, there'll be enough corporate bucks to make it fly.

I saw something similar to this but fancier looking at my local liquor store... but I cannot remember the name. Maybe a cocktail will refresh my memory

Hmm... reading into it - the favor carts are no additional charge.

So you do pay per drink, but you don't have to pay for the consumable cartridges, and they ship all that to you as you need it. That isn't so bad, it's a lot cheaper than ordering at the bar. Honestly I think it sounds better than sodastream - where you have to go chase down all the refills yourself.

That said, at $500 or $800 - if they go out of business that becomes a pricey paperweight.

How long before someone hacks it so their favorite drink is 50% caffeine, 50% pure alcohol.

How long before it breaks and mixes a deadly doze of caffeine into your drink?

Assuming this will ever be a working and delivered product. Yeah, I've seen too many kickstarter scams aimed at bright eyed hipsters.
