During the company’s All Access Upfronts presentation today, CBS announced the official title of Patrick Stewart’s upcoming Jean-Luc Picard series: “Star Trek: Picard.” The logo was also revealed in a short teaser posted on the official Star Trek Twitter account.

Those who attended the event got to see some early footage, which reportedly involved Jean-Luc Picard encountering a Starfleet officer who had no idea who he was. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman recently told the LA Times it would be a “psychological show, a character study about this man in his emeritus years.”

Stewart will star in Star Trek: Picard, reprising his role as the venerable Captain Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: Next Generation. The series will follow this iconic character in the next chapter of his life.

Nice. But CBS can shove it up it's ***. I'm not forking over more money for content.

Its important to note that this isn't the same Picard we knew back in the TNG days. Essentially, the current Star Trek productions are under Paramount and Bad Robot. CBS and Paramount split a few years back and divided the Star Trek license. Paramount only has ownership and merchandise rights to the films. The TV shows belong to CBS. CBS is having Paramount/Bad Robot produce this stuff under what is known as an alternative copyright license where everything has to be some 25% different.

That's a big part of why modern Star Trek is so **** bad.
