Cooler Master has announced its V SFX Platinum power supplies, the company’s first PSUs to feature the new PCIe 5.0 power connector with 12+4 (16) pins.

Comprising both SFX-L and SFX form factor models, Cooler Master’s V1100 (1,100 watts) and V1300 (1,300 watts) Platinum power supplies feature a next-generation power connector that can be clearly seen in some of their marketing shots, which showcase a slightly unusual design with extended connectors. While Cooler Master has yet to confirm the exact specifications of its PCIe 5.0 power connectors, ongoing coverage suggests that they will provide up to 600 watts of power for future GPUs and graphics cards.

I just bought their 850 watt sfx Cooler Master. Hoping it's solid for long term use.

Nice to see support for 5.0 in the ssf niche

Gonna need a bigger form factor soon even on ATX size just to be able to fit all those modular cable connectors on the back.

If I had the time I'd mod a Jaws meme with one of these PSUs hanging off the back of the boat. You know, that last scene when the shark is planking over it.

Theoretically, you'd only need one 12-pin cable, which would carry the same power as four 8-pin cables.

Now, if we were sticking with the traditional 8-pin and 6-pin cables, I'd heartily agree - I picked up custom 8-pin cables so I didn't have to fight Corsair's stiff stock cables and the pigtails on them. Three 8-pin cables straight from the GPU to the PSU for a 3080 FTW - and it actually can pull all 450W!

Where you'll wind up wanting a bigger case is when you try to get rid of all of that heat quietly - that requires volume.

They should just replace everything with micro-fit connectors (same style as that new pcie 12pin connector). Should free up some space

edit: for reference a lot the server motherboards I see have already replaced the traditional 12V EPS 8pin connectors with smaller 8pin microfit connectors. A lot of the backplanes have microfit style connectors too.
