Ever wondered about the costs of the cloud. Sure that’s a general statement but we know somewhere there’s a lot of servers and have some idea who the big players are. The Register has published an interesting article exploring some of those statistics. They explore data from a report by Synergy Tech covering periods from 2014 to 2017. In this time period they noted a 34 percent growth of for data centers. This included both hardware and software.
Fast forward to the first two quarters of 2019. The growth of these hyperscale operators now attribute to one third of $38 billion in the data center market! More detailed analysis shows that the demand for data centers continues to grow. A trend expected to continue is a decline in the purchasing of servers. Instead companies are focusing on their configurations. One final statistic. Synergy stated 96% of that previously stated 38 billion was budgeted towards networking and virtualization software.
