The GeForce RTX 4090 is such a powerful GPU that it can play Valve's newly launched Counter-Strike 2 at frame rates of up to 543 FPS, with just 5 milliseconds of latency. That's according to a new set of benchmarks that NVIDIA has shared, which teases the kind of performance that players should see in the new game with the latest GeForce GPUs, including the GeForce RTX 40 and 30 Series. Counter-Strike 2, a graphical and technological update that upgrades Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the Source 2 engine, is available now on Steam as a free-to-play title.

The kids will still minimize all the settings, and run at like 800x600 stretched onto their modern monitor because someone on youtube told them this gives them an advantage... 🙃

I'd like to see multiplayer competitive titles with fixed settings, so that they can't be tampered with, by - say - forcing minimums so that grass isn't rendered so that you gain an advantage.

Instead remove console, and allow people to choose high medium or low settings, and depending on which you choose, you can only play against others with the same settings.

One of the appeals of Counter-Strike 23 years ago was that it was "so real" compared to other games out there. This seems like a joke today.

I'd love to see a Counter-Strike that would really tax a high end system.

Unfortunately that will never happen. With the F2P model the incentive becomes getting the maximum player base, and that means making sure it runs on a potato, so it becomes a race to the bottom. We have 2023 hardware, but the game looks worse than some that came out in 2003.
