Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be “Perceived as a Very Good Game” in the Future, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s President

Despite its troubled launch and technical controversies, Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually be hailed by the gaming community as a very good game. That’s according to CD PROJEKT RED president Adam Kiciński, who recently shared his thoughts with Polish economic newspaper Rzeczpospolita in a new interview. Kiciński expressed that he still has plenty of faith in the sci-fi RPG, noting the strength of the brand and the potential of its universe.



“Releasing a game in a new franchise brings many challenges and risks, especially when the concept is so complex,” Kiciński said. “We brought to life a huge, vibrant futuristic city called Night City, where the characters’ non-linear stories take place.”

It's a very good game now. Unfortunately, it released at least two years earlier than it should have. There are some basic things that CDPR didn't finish before releasing the game.

It had a rough launch, but it is a very good game now.

I'm about 24 hours in. I'm just hoping the story missions don't wrap up too quickly. That's my only concern. I'm really loving it thus far.

Hopefully more story DLC will be released over time.

I mean, it's an absolutely massive open world city, I feel like I have barely scratched the surface thus far.

There should be plenty of neighborhoods and 3d assets already built that with only minor additions can be used to further develop stories.

I know their goal is to turn it in to a huge MMO, but that I have no interest in. I won't play it online at all if that goes live.

I think it's pretty obvious they are looking to cash in the way Rockstar did with GTA Online just re-releasing the same game, and continuing to charge $60 for it, for years on end. Who could resist that? I hope that's not the way it goes though.

The question is if people will buy it. GTA-V is already the joke of gaming communities, but for whatever reason people still buy it...

Well, that was the plan but the multiplayer aspects of it aren't likely to happen. They seemed to have backed off on that. The multiplayer part was cancelled I believe. As I understand it they are going to run it like the Witcher III and sell it and DLC's over the next several years.
 
It was a very good game in January. Heck it was a very buggy, but very good game last december.

The problem is that people didn't expect a very good game, they were expecting a brilliant and flawless game, that redefines gaming as we know it.

And it wasn't. If anything, it was what you could normally expect from a company like Bethesda, albeit with a far tighter and better crafted narrative.
 
My biggest issues with the game are that the story is a bit short and the sidestuff is a bit the same as in all similar games.

Still I plan to replay the game and explore some more to see if there is some better stuff I did not stumble upon yet
 
I bought the game on Steam when it first came out. Played it for a while and couldn't stand the issues with the game bugs. Got a refund.

Which is why the key to happiness is having low expectations :p
 
So, does anyone know if the game differs much if you choose a different backstory?

I am in my first play-through and went with the Corpo back story, but there was also a Nomad and a streetkid one if memory serves.

I've completed the game with all three life paths and I've done most of the endings. The short answer is no. They don't make any real difference. The long version is more complicated. They do alter your conversation options and have their pros and cons in terms of usefulness. The Street Kid and the Corpo tend to be the more useful of the three, providing more money or intimidation type options here and there. However, where the Nomad life path shines is when dealing with the Aldecaldo's and other Nomads. You also get additional dialog with Panam you wouldn't normally get.

That being said, these differences, while somewhat notable are very minor. It doesn't serve to alter the core of V enough to make any difference and gameplay wise, it has virtually no effect on your playthroughs. However, the introductory mission is entirely different for all three life paths. It's essentially the only thing that is.

No, basically it boils down to choosing a different tutorial mission. During the game there are occasional conversation options that are tied to your backstory, but they are quite rare and not significant enough to alter the game in any meaningful way.

This was probably my biggest disappointment with the game, next to the lacking character creator which they touted to be above and beyond everything we've seen thus far. And it turned out as an average character creator, not even a particularly good one.

I didn't even notice that, but I kind of rushed through character generation.

I wound up with a V who looks like comedian Michael Kosta. Not really intended, but it works.

The character creator is far more limited than you might have imaged based on what CDPR said during all those videos prior to the games' release. However, you can adjust options to the genitals independently of what gender the character appears to be. There are actually some specific genital options on top of just being able to pick a penis on a female body type or giving a dude's body a clam.

Weirdly though, the difference between the breast options is minimal. It seems they went this route so they wouldn't have to adjust the clothing models for a clothed V with different sized tits. Additionally, you can't make your V more muscular or anything. It really is limited. It's about as detailed as the Mass Effect character creator, but with less face options. Very 2007'ish.

There were games with much more comprehensive and detailed character creators 10 years ago.

There is an option to enable/disable genitals and then you can configure them. There are also body tattoo and scarring options as well.

I recall reading something about how CDPR said people complained that the Witcher 3's main story was too long (I thought it was a good length), so they made CP2077's main story much shorter. But now I hear complaints that the main story is too short. I'd like to know Dan's thoughts on this.

I own the game myself, but I only put about a few hours into it (Steam says 10 hours, that's a lot more than I thought). I played it at launch, the game was hella broken, and my system is too weak for the experience I want, so I put the game on the backburner. I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually, but it won't be on my current system. Waiting has already proven fruitful, with all the patches and mods that have been released thus far. I really enjoyed Witcher 2 and 3 even though I'm a sci-fi guy, so I still hope that CP2077 will end up being very enjoyable for me as well.

The thing is, Cyberpunk 2077's story is essentially split up into two different parts. You have V's story and Johnny Silverhand's story. They do tie together, but they are progressed separately with the latter story not really being playable until after all but the last mission for V is done. This vastly changes how the story is paced and how it feels to go through it. Because it's split into two very different parts, it feels even shorter than it really is.

The total time to complete the "main" story is probably around 30 or 40 hours if I had to guess. I'm not entirely certain. It isn't as long as it should be in my opinion. The Johnny Silverhand part is fine in length but the stuff with V is way too short.
