People were already saying it was an early April Fool's joke. But then there's videos like this one (which I haven't seen yet): https://youtu.be/4ZlwTtgbgVA

But it's already clear how people feel:

Yyyeeeaaahhh I'm not down with this sh1t either. Why would I want to make my video games look like an AI-generated video? Were the fake frames from Frame Gen not enough? Sheesh.

The uncanny valley and generic sameness does not appeal to my brain. I suppose the upside is this is the worst it will ever look, and it will keep getting better?

While I appreciate graphics, if the gameplay hooks me, I quickly forget about them. I certainly don't play games like FO New Vegas or Red Dead Redemption for the eye candy. But I've put 100s of hours into each.

Hahahahahaha yeah I saw those on [H], along with some others:

D4mn straight. It's about the gameplay. That has to shine above all. Story, music, visuals, etc is all side sh1t, and stuff that passive entertainment like movies and shows can do. But video games are about the actual playing of the game. If the gameplay doesn't deliver, then f*ck everything else. The gameplay has to be good and compelling on its own. Everything else should serve the gameplay.

* Only available on select nVidia 6000 series graphics cards, which we aren't going to introduce because AI is awesome. Or dual 5090 setups, which we aren't making any more and now have a retail MSRP of $5,090 to match the model number. So good luck - go stream it on GeForce Now**!

** Available with a Super Premier Ultra subscription, limited to 10 hours per month.

Other than the glowup on facial shots - mostly it just seems to make everything brighter.

I didn't want to post this twice, so here are my thoughts:

That latest poll now has over 38K votes and still at 81%. There is no getting around it, the tech is not ready for prime time, and they should have waited on the reveal. Alex from DF of all people, made some great points. Including the fact there is an ethical discussion to be had completely separate from any technical merits or lack there of.

I think this is just karma farming. They didn't claim that it was ready for primetime - they were showing that it is even possible in the first place.

Like, that's literally all we have; a bunch of behind the scenes technical work to make the feature even possible, and a demo thrown together for maximum impact to demonstrate the potential range of the technology.

On the other hand, it does occur to me that the feedback here is good. Nvidia likely wasn't intending to go full 'AI slop' with the finished product, and we have the development of DLSS as a recent example of their intentions when it comes to image quality, but given how people IMO rightly feel about the AI slopification of media, hopefully the necessity of keeping their DLSS5 efforts focused on improving the quality of assets within the envelope of developer intent, and to leave the more drastic applications to end users and modders to play with on their own.
