In a new video interview with IGN, id Software lead engine programmer Billy Kahn revealed that DOOM Eternal can hit 1,000 frames per second on PC thanks to improvements made to the id Tech 7 engine, which powers the game. The previous version, id Tech 6, maxed out at a relatively low 250 FPS.
“If you have the hardware right, it could hit 1,000 frames per second,” explained Kahn. “That’s the max we have, and there’s really no upper limit. I’ve had some hardware here locally that we built just for testing, where we had scenes running at 400 frames per second.”
The point is that DOOM Eternal should look especially mind-blowing on modern, high-refresh-rate monitors. “People who have 144 Hz monitors, or even the new monitors that you’ll see coming out that are above that … going forward...
