DOOM Eternal Won’t Have Microtransactions: It’s Meant to Be a “Complete Experience”

With the franchise being as popular as it is, DOOM Eternal could have been loaded with MTX shenanigans, but luckily, Bethesda is keeping in-game purchases out of it. Creative Director Hugo Martin confirmed this week that the game wouldn’t have microtransactions in any shape or form.



As Martin reasoned on Facebook, id Software didn’t feel that microtransactions would have been appropriate for the $60 title, which was designed to give players a “complete experience.” He said that MTX may make sense in a free-to-play game or mobile title, but not for the Doom Slayer’s latest adventure.



DOOM Eternal does feature unlocks (e.g., skins), which can be earned via XP, but they won’t have any effect on gameplay. These are strictly cosmetic items that “just look cool.”...
