Techland has shared the official ray-tracing requirements for its upcoming apocalyptic zombie sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and they are pretty surprising in a not-so-good way.

According to a systems requirements table published on Steam, Dying Light fans who want to enjoy the sequel with ray tracing effects enabled should shoot for a GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card or better, but even with NVIDIA’s semi-flagship, players can only hope to hit 60 FPS under the “High RT” quality preset if they run the game at 1080p or lower resolutions. Dying Light 2 seems oddly demanding with ray tracing off, too, as Techland recommends an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 just to run the game at 1080p/60 FPS in the High setting...

That is just....

Excessive.

To think I just dropped a **** ton of money on a GPU to be able to run the next gen of games coming out over the next few months in 4k and it is barely sufficient for 1080p.

I'm all for games being challenging at launch, but this is excessive.

Is this the new crysis. Will it have such an amazing level of detail built in that modern. Systems will struggle to run it and become such a benchmark that the gaming world will honor what it can do.

Or... is this a pos with bad code?

Hard to say. The devs have been releasing gameplay videos for this, for years now, and the whole RT thing sounds like a new add in. They've really been trying to amp up the fanbase as well. For a short time I was following their discord channel and they were constantly updating on its progress. We'll just have to wait and see. It definitely has potential to be a new benchmark, and some of the videos do look good, but I too have doubts.

Yeah I have to agree. At this point with the market being what it is with product availability it will not bode well for a game if most can't even enjoy it at 1440p or higher when the settings get maxed. I still game at 1080p with my laptop but when I switch over to a rig with a 3080 or 3090 I'm not looking for compromises at lower resolutions either. Sure CB2077 requires a little tweaking at 4K but even then a mostly 60 FPS experience is doable. Not sure how this game is going to offer so much in order to need so much. Considering the well-known parkour mechanic of the game I'd think they'd want a bit more emphasis on frames, but that's just me.

Yeah, tough to tell.

Large open world games generally tend to be harder on the GPU at the same visual quality just because of the crazy draw distances. Maybe that's what is going on here?

I can't remember how hard the original was on the hardware. I played it a few years after it came out, so I never had an issue.
