EA’s New Dead Space Is Reportedly a “Reimagining” Developed by Star Wars Squadron Studio EA Motive

GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb recently hinted that EA would be unveiling a new installment of Visceral Games’ popular sci-fi survival horror franchise, Dead Space, during its upcoming Play Live showcase. According to a new rumor from Gematsu, this new title will be developed by Star Wars Squadron studio EA Motive and serve as a “reimagining” of the series rather than a direct sequel to the current trilogy. The implication is that the new Dead Space will be a total reboot that could ditch many of the franchise’s recurring staples but retain the survival horror essence of the previous games. EA’s Play Live showcase is scheduled for July 22.

Still slightly optimistic about this but, well, remakes and reimaginings have a way of losing what made the originals special. I've already got misgivings about online play, loot boxes, and all the usual things that EA is known for in recent years. Here's hoping that doesn't happen. If this reimagining ditches a well-developed single-player campaign it'll be a hard pass for me. In the originals upgrades(skins-suits-etc) were earned in the game. I can already see this mechanic getting replaced with a $$$ solution in light of how some publishers have already stated their exorbitant profits made from such things.
