With only a couple of weeks to go until NVIDIA’s flagship cards become available for purchase, we are already getting waterblock offerings from famous, premium liquid-cooling manufacturer EKWB. It has been around since 1999 and sells products in over 30 countries. The latest is aimed at NVIDIA’s flagship cards. Skim just about any thread regarding a GPU’s default cooling solution, and you are sure to come across a reply about someone planning to take it off in order to put on a waterblock. Well, EKWB is already thinking about such folks. These early waterblocks are for reference GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 designs only, not Founders Editions.

This first one, the EK-Quantum...

You know, I don't think I've seen any Founder's Editions designed waterblocks yet. I'm curious to see how they're handling the cutout.

Hoping they release blocks for the Aorus cards when they're released.

True.

I also wonder if the 3 slot PCIe bracked will be replaceable. Would stink if after putting a water block on it, the 3090 still takes up 3 slots.

Surprised there are no pictures of the I/O plate out there, yet. All the AIB cards I've seen so far have one row of video outputs containing three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.1, though.

Ditto. It's almost as if they have been intentionally hiding it for some reason.

Every single view it's held in such a way as to not show the slot side of the card. Even in the rotating renders.

I'm hoping for a founders edition block with simple black acetal top.

I don't care for transparent block tops or RGB.

Maybe Watercool will create a Heat killer version.

Honestly, I'd rather buy Watercool than give EK any more of my money. EK is usually first out with new blocks at launch making it difficult to buy anything else though.

I've had good luck with EK blocks so far. I'm not worried about grabbing one of these and a reference card.

I've not had issues with EK blocks. I generally don't buy reference cards, so EK is sometimes the only player when it comes to AIB blocks.

Indeed. EKWB was the only option I had for my GIGABYTE RTX 2080 Ti Aorus Xtreme 11G.

To be fair, I've never had any issues with any of mine either, and I'm assuming that by the time I get my next GPU chances are good I won't have another option, and I'll buy EK and not have any problems again.

That said, after how they treated customers during the nickel problems a few years back, and after and the first gen Threadripper block issue, I'd just prefer to give my money to someone else, if that is an option. Watercool would be at the top of that list for me.

I'd probably still buy EK over Barrow or any other Chinese brand.

I've noticed that since I started looking a bit more during the Turing releases. Almost got one for my EVGA 2080 Super but it wouldn't have made that much of a difference in terms of performance. However, with my Strix 2080 Ti it could've accomplished something but I don't think I ever saw one. For a 3090 I'm pretty sure I need to be more proactive and just do it. That behemoth just looks like it'll need it but I'll still wait and read the reviews.

My radiators and all my fittings are barrow. Quality is just fine. The fittings, at least, are on par with bitspower for like 1/4 the cost.
