Google’s new game streaming service has had an interesting beginning. One of their initial tier packages that included a limited edition control sold out almost immediately. On release day it was announced that there could be delays for some to receive their orders. Well all of that has passed and now the service is up and running. Eurogamer has published one of the earliest, and to date, most in-depth reviews. I strongly recommend taking a trip over the to read up and also see the many screen shot comparisons they’ve posted for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Destiny 2, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Their review covers these topics and more:
  • Tested at both 30Mbps and 200Mbps connections
  • Posted some latency metrics
  • Compared the above mentioned games to their console counter parts
  • Examine resolution and framerates
  • Used 180fps high speed camera for latency metrics and screen shots
Overall Eurogamer has given a mostly positive review but has noted a few interesting observations. Some features of Stadia are not currently working yet. Some games lock at 1080 even though the Stadia/Chromecast is able to render at 4k/60fps/HDR. One game rendered at 4k/60fps(Destiny 2) versus it’s 30fps console counterpart. They intend to do further testing and release another article exploring resolutions and framerate metrics, and other data, later but for an early piece it does have quite a bit of info. Maybe not the best launch for Stadia but far, far, from the worst.

The Phantom console has finally arrived!!!

Just an interesting mention that they suspect something along the lines of these specs for being used for Stadia:

CPU: Intel 8c/16t @ 2.7Ghz
GPU: RX Vega 56 w/ HBM2
Storage: Solid State
OS: Linux

Of course, its not confirmed but if at all close to the truth that makes the Stadia very close to being a PC on a stick implementation.
