EA and FIFA's partnership of 30 years has come to close with this year's FIFA 23, but more FIFA-branded games are on the way from other developers in the form of "future-focused web 3.0" titles, according to a press release shared by the football association today.

I'm sure they will do very well among the lowest common denominator sports fan types.

I'd imagine these are utterly uninteresting to the overwhelming majority of us on forums like these though :p

Where did I miss 1.0 and 2.0 at?

Lemme take a stab at that:

1.0 was obviously the original, as shown by Netscape. And it was mostly passive links and animated GIFs.

2.0 was ... AJAX and Javascript? Where you could send out and recieve data without a click on a link, and script pages to do things.

And 3.0 is... ? Charge people for those animated GIFs by slapping a serial number on them? Oh, I'm sorry, I mean... a Cryptologically backed certificate of uniqueness.

I think you might have been asleep when the terminology came around.

1. was never used. It was just the Worldwide Web or the "Information super highway" if you will. One surfed it.

2. Was all the rage, what, ~15 years ago? It was all "Web 2.0" this, and "Web 2.0" that. It was generally used to describe social media stuff, if I recall.

3. Web3 is a newish term. I think it is used by some who think crypto and NFT's are the next great thing to describe internet technologies designed around blockchain-like decentralized tech.

Either way, Web 2.0 and Web 3 are/were both highly insider jargon that just sound dumb to anyone else. It's of saying, "well, yeah, what I am working on is the next great thing. The 3.0 to your 2.0, just you wait".

MT laden, cryto-collectible loaded hot garbage?
I promise, you will hear about the first FIFA fan web3 game cryto item enthusiast trader becoming a millionaire, or very rich. These stories are already reseached and planned, the rest, including the game itself is just backfill to a soccer based casino, and doesn't get any better for press and a select few millionaires.
