The popular relic for power users from the Windows 95 and XP days is back. Microsoft has released the first preview of PowerToys for Windows 10, which comprises two utilities: the Windows key shortcut guide, and a window manager called FancyZones.

The former is a full-screen overlay that shows the user what Windows shortcuts are available on the desktop and active window, while the latter simplifies the arrangement of windows into common layouts such as columns, rows, and grids. Users can create and save custom presets in the FancyZones editor.

When the PowerToys project was first announced this spring, we didn’t think the reception would be as enthusiastic as it has been. The project started with just an empty repo, with a roadmap and a place for power users to provide suggestions and ideas. However, over 4000 users starred the repo, showing a strong interest in the project.

Those are not power toys. Those are just... modest features. I'm disappointed. It should have been a selection of sysinternals tools. THOSE are good tools and would be for power users.
