In a newly published X570 overclocking guide, GIGABYTE managed to get AMD's Ryzen 9 3950X running at 4.3 GHz on all 16 cores at 1.4 V with water cooling. That's an impressive feat, but the company also pointed out that its thermal performance was comparable to last gen's Ryzen 7 2700X, which features half the core count.
This seems to be proof that the 3950X's dies have been heavily binned by AMD and represent the best that TSMC had to offer. At stock speeds, GIGABYTE's chip managed 3,932 points in Cinebench R15, which Tom's Hardware estimates as being 92% faster than a stock Core i9-9900K.
We ran tests using a liquid cooling setup at different voltages and frequencies using an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X to show the difference in thermal performance. As you can see with our liquid cooling setup the temperatures are similar than what we were getting last year using a Ryzen 7 2700X.
