Santa Monica Studio has released a new patch for the PC port of God of War that not only introduces a handful of fixes, but a welcome feature, to the definitive version of the action-adventure game.

Among them is the addition of a sharpening slider for God of War’s implementation of DLSS, allowing players to adjust the clarity of the image produced by NVIDIA’s supersampling solution. The addition of the slider was prompted by players who experienced graphical issues stemming from DLSS’ automatic sharpening. While sharpening reportedly still can’t be turned off, even with the slider set to zero, Santa Monica Studio has promised that additional improvements are on the way.

As for the fixes, God of War players should no longer experience a number of issues that include graphics driver crashes and display setting bugs, as well as...

Thanks, @DrezKill for all the positive support for this game. I've really been enjoying it on all my rigs. I fired it up last night with this update on the 3700x rig and along with the flawless widescreen fix, I'm really enjoying it on the CRG9 display. Sony should give lessons on PC HDR. It's the 1st game that just works on that monitor as well. It even brings a bit more out of the HDR400 MSI Optix display I use with my laptop.

Not saying the game is perfect on any level but I am having fun with it and enjoying the story and visuals. As someone of Norse heritage that deeply researched its myths during my youth, I am finding it refreshing how the creators managed to make a new story that just doesn't 'reimagine' everything or simply use its names/locations like so much anime does.

Not that'll it ever happen but how cool would it be if there was a Witcher/GOW crossover where Ciri brings them all together to deal with some epic crisis and the story has the player rotate who they play as it progresses?

Really glad you are enjoying it. I wasn't a huge fan of the older GoW games, but I enjoyed them well enough. I never finished 1 or 2 cuz they were too hard for me. Chains of Olympus on PSP was meh, didn't finish that one cuz I lost interest. Ghost of Sparta on PSP was good, and GoW3 was also a really good game. When I first heard about 4, and how the game was set up, I was hella skeptical. It was quite a departure for the series. Worked out in the end though. Everyone I know who played it loved the game. When I finally got my own copy (after I got my own PS4), I ended up really enjoying that game, and I think it might be one of my favorite games of the 8th generation. It was quite a surprise to me. I gave it a whirl, and it hooked me in. I was concerned about Kratos having a kid and dragging him around everywhere. Usually in video games, having to escort a character or having a sidekick adventuring along with you usually ends up being annoying and not working well. I was glad to see that wasn't the case with this game.

Cory Barlog and his team worked their @sses off for over 5 years to deliver that game, and it really shows through in the final product. Barlog was in tears when the game came out and most of the reviews were positive. All that stress and hard work paid off. I give him and his team mad props. And props to Sony too, cuz the bastards actually let the game come to PC, and the porting team appears to have done an excellent job. Almost makes me wanna grab a second copy and go through the game again.

I can only hope Ghost of Tsushima comes to PC, and gets the same treatment, and that PC players playing it for the first time enjoy it as much as I did on console. C'mon Sony, we need a lot more of those exclusives you got on PC. Just more money for you, so how can you say no? Although releasing these old games on PC waaaay after they came out on console with such high prices is kind of a pain in the @ss, but one thing at a time. Can I get some f*ckin' Ratchet and Clank on PC too please?

I got two friends with Viking blood, and I'd be really interested to see what they have to say about this game. It was interesting how the devs pivoted away from the Greek gods (cuz that whole story got wrapped up in 3) and took things to a new place in this Norse-based world with 4, while still having some ties and references to events in the previous games. Assuming they do 3 games based on the Norse stuff, I wonder where they could go next.

Alas, my HDTV from 2009 (Samsung B650) does not support HDR, and it's only 1080p. My PS4 Pro kinda goes to waste on it. I don't even recall if I had my current primary PC monitor (model in sig) or even my previous monitor (Samsung C27HG70) when I played GoW4 (pretty sure I didn't). I could have maybe played it using that monitor, but eh. HDR is not this monitor's strong suit anyways. Still aiming to get an LG OLED HDTV one day. I'm happy to hear the HDR is good on the PC version of this game though. The very first time I saw GoW4 with my own eyes was on my friend's Samsung KS8000 HDTV, and good gawd, the HDR. That was one of the first games I really got to see with HDR, and it made quite the difference.

How can you guys like this game knowing they sell it on the EGS?
I had no idea this game was sold on EGS, I never ever check that store. I only check GOG and Steam. I do have an Epic account, and I have the launcher installed, but that's cuz I used to f*ck around Unreal Engine dev stuff. This was long before they had a storefront. I also used it to play the UT4 alpha/beta/whatever-it-was. First game I can recall being on that Epic launcher was a port of a pretty good Metroidvania game called Shadow Complex, which they were giving out for free. I had enjoyed the game on X360, I wasn't gonna say no to a free PC copy. Never thought I would see the game on PC at all. Then they started selling UE dev stuff in the store, then all of a sudden they had a full games store, I was like what the fuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Never spent money there, have no reason to ever do so. I do grab the free games, but why? Like I got Batman: Arkham Knight for free on EGS, and I still used the Steam version to play through the game (a friend's copy, accessed through library share). A friend got a second copy of Borderlands 3 from a graphics card purchase, and it was for the EGS version, and we co-op'ed the game using that. Other than that, I never use that launcher anymore, and I certainly never use that store.

Honestly man, I'm just stunned God of War 4 even ended up on PC to begin with. Still trying to get over seeing Sony-exclusive IPs on PC. I feel like this is not real life. I keep feeling like it's some kind of joke. So I certainly wasn't paying attention to what digital stores the game was being sold on. I played the game on console because I never ever thought it would ever see the light of day on PC. Shocked to see it there now.

The GIF you posted reminded me of something I often reference at work after encountering some kind of idiotic problem that needs some ridiculous facepalm type of solution.

Well, I finished the main campaign last night. I really enjoyed it. I did take some time to finish a chunk of the side quests along the way but still have plenty more to go back to. I think I'm around 70-80% complete. I found their take on Norse mythology interesting. Having read some of the Edda and Sagas, along with a few odds and ends over the years, I'm aware there are some variations and inconsistencies within the mythology. Factor in the old saying about how victors write/rewrite history and this take has some plausibility with its support of the giants and the world serpent. I'm not sure I agree with them but it's still nice to see a fresh take on things.

This will now become my side game as I begin Horizon Zero Dawn. I was able to snag it when it was on sale on GOG a few weeks ago. Hopefully that recent patch will help it even more.

Good times and I highly recommend GOW to anyone who has a CRG9 and a 30-series GPU that's at least a 3080 or 3080 Ti. I used flawless widescreen for 32:9 support and the HDR looks amazing on the CRG9 to boot but there were times, even with DLSS on quality, it pulled my 3090 (@ 2025 MHz) into the 80-90 FPS range. The vast majority of the time it stayed at 100 FPS with V-Sync on.

I have to admit that Elden Ring has me curious. I'm going to wait and watch the reviews. Capcom can be hit or miss with things but it does look promising.

until I heard it was Dark Souls type game, which don't really interest me all that much.
I hadn't read enough on it to know that and now that you mention it, I've just lost interest. oh well. That's o.k., I just started Horizon last night and it has potential plus I still need to bet back to CB2077 plus I really want to do another play-through of Crysis Remaster after that final patch came out
