A leaked image suggests that Intel may be releasing new stock coolers for its upcoming 12th Gen Core “Alder Lake-S” processors. It seems that Intel is getting on the RGB train; two of them have blue illumination around the fins. All are labeled “Laminar” for use with 65-watt boxed CPUs. The RH1 features an Intel Core i9 logo; the RM1 features i3, i5, and i7 logos; and the non-RGB RS1 features Pentium and Celeron logos. The RH1 features a taller and beefier-looking heatsink and screw design. If real, it will be interesting to see what the cooling performance is for these coolers.

Not sure if real, intel hasn’t gotten the hint if these are real lol. pic.twitter.com/8YTFtiylMz— Ayxerious (@ayxerious) September 10, 2021...

I’m not sure what’s funnier - that Intel thinks these processors should be rated 65W or that those ”coolers” will actually cool them.

That first one seems like it could cool a CPU. Perhaps not well, but technically. The other two are a joke. Not that Intel's stock coolers have really ever been more than that outside of a few very rare and ultra-specific examples. Such as the one that came with the Core i7 980X for example.

Well... their coolers did work. But only in a technical sense, because the chips have pretty advanced thermal monitoring and throttling.... you could almost strap on a ham and cheese sandwich and make a CPU today "work" - just not very well.

I see them as really cheap 'function checks', especially when they're usually quite a bit easier to install than many decent coolers.

You could use one full-time, but unless you're running a bottom barrel locked part, you're leaving a lot of headroom on the table.

Not really too impressed with that. I was hoping we would see a small water-cooling kit with these.. Maybe for 1 120mm fan size radiator with an advanced cooling solution that intel developed. (automotive coolant?) ;)

Last time I used an Intel stock cooler was on a P4 (likely Netburst but I can't remember exactly)

No water cooler will have the long term durability needed for Intel to use as a stock cooler. Would love to see them include a D15 equivalent though.
