It's a lack of understanding of the market as to why AMD has stuck with TSMC... not just all eggs in one basket (TSMC), but all eggs on one island that is the primary focus of the PLAs rocket force. A rocket force built up to overwhelm the possibility of being stopped by land- and sea-based interceptors.
At least Samsung has fabs on other continents!
But there are many fab companies, just not many whose scale of production would meet the price per viable die that AMD is looking to sell at. If AMD used Texas Instruments, as an example, the retail unit cost might have to go up 10x (complete guess).
