Deadline has learned that Sony and PlayStation Productions are developing a movie based on Sucker Punch’s critically acclaimed samurai adventure game, Ghost of Tsushima. Gawd damnit, I don't know why movie studios continue to try to pull this kind of sh1t. Leave video games alone. Turning them into movies NEVER works out. And a movie will never match the experience that the game gives you. Especially not for awesome games like GoT.

As long as they don't try tontrcreqte the game as a movie it has a good chance of being good. A medieval John wick mowing through bad guys with choreographed moves and modern cinematography should be awesome. Especially as they're is no shaky cam bullshit in john wick.

Stunt men, grow your hair long and get a bug fluffy beard going. You have a lot of work coming!!

The interactive nature of video games, whether open world or more linear, precludes the ability to dutifully recreate the experience of playing them. Not to mention most games need 20-40 hours minimum to complete which means a lot of content has to be condensed to tell a story. The most a film can hope to achieve is to strip it down and plan to create a franchise to expand upon. Most fail with this strategy since they cannot nail the spirit that drew players to the games in the first place and the pacing for storytelling. This could end up being a good movie but only time will tell. It will also help if various execs don't chime in to change the movie to what they're familiar with, and then detract from the source material., or some popular fad comes about forcing a clone conversion in mid-production.

Hmm. This is true. But a lot of that time is walking around, fighting stuff, exploring, side quests, inventory management, etc.

Of actual story and plot - most single player games could fit inside of a 2 hr movie fairly easily once you strip out all the “user interaction and engagement” parts. A game like World of Warcraft - not so much, but it had the potential to be a heck of a franchise of movies
