The scare-mongering and negative reviews (from critics) weren't enough to put down Warner Bros's origin story for the Clown Prince of Crime. "Joker," which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro, has managed to make $93.5M stateside and $140.5M overseas since its Thursday debut. The $234M total beats out the previous global opening record set by "Venom," which managed $207.4M.

…in Joker, Phillips and Phoenix sincerely portray the mind of a twisted, disenfranchised person living in the slums of a 1980s Gotham, a casualty of Reagan economics social service funding cuts for every detail of its reality. It’s haunting. As I’ve mentioned continually, you forget you’re watching a Batman movie. The pic is so entrenched in how society can bring out the ugly in a person when they’re down in the dumps, with severe repercussions.

The media couldn't manufacture enough fake outrage to keep people from seeing what is supposed to be a very real portrayal of how a persons pysche can be distorted? Good. Movies that make you think or uncomfortable because they hit close to home should be supported.

Looking forward to seeing this one .. though I don't know how this Joker fits in with the DC universe as Bruce is still just a child .. maybe the movie esplanes' it?

Agreed. Media is such **** now. Anyone who can't see that all they do now is push agendas or else keep people in fear to keep them tuning in are blind. Media are gore crows. And pro athletes knew just how fake these people were long before it got absorbed into the cultural zeitgeist by the current times. There's a reason pro athletes HATE having to talk to the media...

Reporter: So, what happened out there today? What do you think went wrong?
Athelete: Well, we didn't do a good job executing and made too many mistakes.
Reporter: How do you plan to turn that around for your game against ______?
Athelete: Well, we just need to execute our game plan and not take so many penalties.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat....after every game.
