This happened when the 7xx0X3D series dropped, way back when - the CPUs would grenade in the socket due to an electrical short, taking the board (via the socket) with them.He does have an ASUS mobo. They were, I think, the first one to start showing voltage related issues with AM5 CPUs.
Pretty terrible failure mode, but one that was also pretty quickly fixed and completely different from what we're seeing with the 9xx0X3D CPUs.
