Yeah FSR Frame Gen has been around for a while. That and XeSS Frame Gen are all I have access to on my RTX 3000 series card. Never tried XeSS frame gen, and only tried FSR frame gen in a couple games, where I was not impressed. I'm not someone who really needs frame gen anyways. But yeah I assume Sony will probably get their own version of frame gen at some point, similar to FSR's cousin PSSR.

Yes, since FSR3 I think. FSR4.1 uses AI for FG though.
