Flats and blowouts may finally be a thing of the past. Michelin and General Motors are working on an airless tire called the Uptis, which will be released in 2024.

Tests are scheduled for this year on Michigan-based Bolt Electic Vehicles (EVs). They’re a bit strange looking, but aesthetics can certainly be put aside for road safety.

The airless tire has all-round benefits: less raw material and energy are used in their production, the amount of scrapped tires due to punctures or damage will dramatically minimize, wear and tear issues due to over or under inflation will be eliminated, and roads will become safer with fewer blowouts or flat tires.
