Microsoft has introduced the Windows 365 Link, a new device that the Windows and Xbox maker says was purpose-built to connect securely to Windows 365—a service that allows users to stream Windows 10 or 11 through the cloud—in "seconds."

And there it is...our first look at Windows OS subscription model.

Let me guess. No local storage. Everything is stored on OneDrive.

All the information about you and your life contained in your files are OUR property, and we will use it as we see fit, including mining it for information we will use to show you ads to sell you more useless subscription garbage, and to sell it to others, or use it to train AI.

Welcome to hell. You own nothing, not even your own files. And you have no rights at all - including the right to sue - as you signed those away when you agreed to the EULA, which of course included a mandatory arbitration clause.

Please for the love of god nobody buy this.... The future of freedom as we know it depends on this being a commercial failure.

...because if it becomes a huge success, the whole market will move in this direction, and it will become more and more difficult to have a real computer experience

I think it's far too late for that. O365 is already a staggering success for businesses. This might just replace business PC's. But I'm not sure how it'll fit in to a lot of businesses now because laptops are a thing (and portable.) Still, I think it just moves everything back to thin cloud client.

Meh... most businesses that have suffered ANY kind of attach known how important it is for workers to be able to work while the network is down.

Things like this will be fine for college or home users. But for businesses where an internet outage can't stop work it's just junk for the least critical employees.

Haven't we already went through a wave of this?

I remember old Wyse dumb terminals and crap like that - they didn't last too long.
