WordPad, a basic, albeit dependable, staple of the Windows operating system that users could launch for basic word processing duties for the last 28 years, is officially dead.

I don't think I've ever used WordPad since it came out. Notepad I do use on a regular basis.

I still used Notepad and WordPad, but I also use Notepad++, Kate, and a bunch of other text editors as well.

I used WordPad for .rtf files. Word was...unreliable...at least for me...regarding .rtf files. But I haven't used it in years...think back to OS/2 warp days and WordPerfect.

My dad uses it just for simple word proc stuff that he shouldn't have to buy Office for.

I am pretty sure their is some free web site that can do everything Wordpad can do then some, for free. (With an internet connection and a browser)

With that said, I only use Notepad++ and nano.

Oh wow, yeah RTF. I remember that. Kind of funny how back in the '90s it was like the File Format Wars, and there were so many different ones, and it was always a hassle to deal with.

I guess one good thing about Office pretty well dominating is that it more or less standardized the file format war.

Or did it?
