The good news is that the 4K remastering is still underway. The bad news is that this project joins a long list of those being pushed back to a later release. Bill Hunt, of The Digital Bits, has reported on this latest delay straight from his sources involved in the massive undertaking.

The issue with the Middle Earth titles is that while 4K remastering is well under way by Weta in New Zealand, and the overall production effort has ramped up...

Good, take your time. I still remember how pissed I was at the original Blu-ray release having messed up colors.

In other news-I ordered my 4K copy of Ghost in The Shell yesterday. According to Blu-Ray.com they did a good, and new, remaster for it. Should be here Wednesday. Ordered the BB steel-book version.

Sounds like that in spite of the picture being excellent, the audio was butchered in the NTSC/U release in the name of surround sound.

Yeah the audio issues for the movie has always been a roller coaster ride. Multiple dubs, botched mixes, you name it. Heck there's even been different subtitles for the 2nd one. I'll just be happy for the visual upgrade at this point. I even read how they changed some music in the credits or something along those lines. One of the few things I've owned nearly every version since VHS.

edit: My wife saw it at a local college/indie type theater back during it's original run. Long before we were together. I can only imagine what people thought back then.

Waiting for my UHD player before I jump on discs
