The recently introduced Intel Xeon 6 data center processors are the first to benefit from this new memory, called MRDIMMs, for higher performance — in the most plug-and-play manner imaginable.

I could think of a few jokes related to MR. DIMM, but I believe I will refrain.

Does this mean 2 banks of 16/24/..../64 each for up to 128gb per MRDIMM?

Would there still be bank interleaving? So double raid 0 so to speak?

I - for one - hope they pronounce this "Mister Dimm"

I am all for new technology, but I am 100% against new standards that are proprietary.

Hardware like memory should be universally compatible across all platforms in the industry from all vendors.

This kind of fragmentation hurts customers and benefits those who own the standard.

I bet intel just loves the prospect of selling you $1000 MRDIMM moduules in the same capacity you could get for $200 elsewhere, but you are locked into Mr Dimm because you bought Xeon.

The prioritization of PC hardware standards (yes, even Enterprise Server ones) hurts us all and needs to end.
