According to Steam 250's latest rankings, 2K's newest basketball sim is the second most hated game on Steam. The level of hate it has generated is pretty impressive, being that NBA 2K20 was only released last week. It hasn't reached the level of disgust that bottom-100 champion Flatout 3: Chaos and Destruction has generated, but that game came out way back in 2011.
The lack of positive reviews and immense hatred appear to stem from microtransactions. Players are also complaining of long loading times and embarrassing glitches, such as an outdated taskbar icon (the NBA 2K19 icon was recycled).
This follows some recent controversy over an NBA 2K20 trailer that in some ways looked more like a casino ad. Videogame content rating company PEGI recently said that it didn’t count as gambling under its current criteria, though it added that it was “very aware it may get too close for comfort for some people.”
