New NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN Gaming Benchmarks Show What a $999 GPU from 2013 Can Do Today

In California, we are funding the high speed rail system that goes nowhere.
What about that Elon Musk super-speed underground tunnel? When is that gonna be operational? I'd like to be able to get to the west coast pretty quickly. The SR-71 can do it in just over an hour. When is regular consumer travel gonna get on that level? 5 hours is just too dang long for a flight.

Elon Musk literally only came up with it to throw a wrench into high speed rail, allegedly. And the answer to when is never. Musk just regurgitated an unfeasible idea from the early 1900s, gave it a new name and a sales pitch. I think the last company still invested in that pipe dream declared bankruptcy recently.
Yeah, you make a great point. In California, we are funding the high speed rail system that goes nowhere.
I thought that was dead in the water.

There is a company that is planning a high speed line from LA to Las Vegas - that one is moving forward and has hope. It is not taxpayer funded.

The State funded one that was supposed to go from San Fransisco to LA. They are trying to build it piecemeal, they don’t have property rights all the way through yet so it looks like a jigsaw puzzle halfway completed, and it won’t actually go to San Fran or LA - stopping well short of both destinations making it useless. It’s still very much getting a lot of money spent on it - there are random bits of overpass and rail and such here and there, but I don’t think I will see a train roll on those tracks in my lifetime.

And you are entirely right about Hyperloop. They have built, I think, just two short tunnels. One runs around Las Vegas but isn’t very useful there. The other ran around the California SpaceX facility as a prototype - and it was recently removed. All companies involved have pretty well stopped anything and/or declared bankruptcy. At least they had a flamethrower.

Sounds risky. (bah dum tish)

Reminds me of a sitcom Mrs. Ditchinit used to watch years ago about an airline flight that made regular runs between LA and Las Vegas. I don't think it lasted more than a couple seasons (if that).
