One of the most dreaded problems an analog stick can have is drift, whereby movement is detected even in the neutral position. Nintendo's Joy-Con controllers have suffered from this exact problem for at least a year, but the company is finally taking the issue seriously after increasing coverage and legal action.
Nintendo has agreed to fix all Joy-Con controllers afflicted with drift issues for free, with or without a valid warranty. Customer service will even provide refunds to those who paid for their repairs in the past.
“Customers will no longer be requested to provide proof of purchase for Joy-Con repairs,” the internal customer service details say. “Additionally it is not necessary to confirm warranty status. If a customer requests a refund for a previously paid Joy-Con repair […] confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund.”
