NVIDIA Announces GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, GeForce RTX 3050, and More at CES 2022

Meh.

I don't care about new products. I care about availability. We still can't buy what was released a year and a half ago.

If new products bring availability - then I'm excited. But no mention of any of that really. So I just assume all of these will be bought in bulk by the same bots/scalpers/miners, and we'll continue to see the status quo of most gamers getting locked out.
The AMD 6500XT will likely be in good stock - I can now walk in and purchase any AMD model I want at micro center, so I expect it to be the same with the 6500XT.

Unfortunately, what I really want is to upgrade my 1080Ti that is currently used for folding at home and for my daughter to play the occasional game on. I could replace it with a 6900 and it would boost game performance (not that Untitled Goose Game needs better than a 1080ti), but it would be a minimal upgrade for folding@home.

At MSRP? I don't have a MC local, but just a quick look at the website - the 6900 isn't terrible - the MSRP there ranges from $1k to $1500 depending on model, but a 6700 at $900? That's 2x MSRP. 6600 MSRP is $329, that's a $150 markup.

So yeah.. they are "available" but I think they are priced so that demand matches supply...

All those prices are AIB MSRP aren’t they?

edit to say that finding AIB MSRP is dramatically more difficult than it used to be. I did find a review that listed the Asus Strix 6700XT at 930, so 899 for the Tuf version is probably what Asus is suggesting for a sale price. I don’t think the “MSRP” listed by either AMD or NVIDIA is realistic and isn’t really worth discussing - obviously the cards aren’t available at those prices anywhere.

I agree with that. MSRP is mostly just a way for the manufacturer to try to define value. It's only "suggested" after all. The dynamics of supply and demand in the market will always determine the real "value" -- and my suspicion is that the prices are so high on these units because the supply isn't there - the market has ramped the price up so that sales match supply.

And while you obviously see some people willing to buy at those levels, I think for the vast majority of gamers, they don't see the value at those prices. My opinion there, maybe I'm just screaming for kids to get off my lawn wishing things would roll back to the way things where, and we'll never get back there.

AMD is selling 6700XT's at around 500€ which is up almost 100 from around a year ago, doubt 899 is MSRP for a TUF model maybe a 6800XT.

Prices have been bad for so long that perception of what they should be seems somewhat off

More than likely it’s why all the AIBs have removed MSRP from their webpages. I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if what they charge distributors varies by month.

in other news for me, my evga waitlist for a 3070ti just arrived. After associate code it was 799 or something close so I grabbed it. Anyone have a recommendation for waterblock?

I was hoping that the Optimus absolute FTW block included the 3070ti, but its 3080, 3080ti, and 3090 only. I've been using optimus for my blocks the last several years. Prior to Optimus, I used EK, but had significant issues with EK nickel coating that never got resolved, so I vowed to not use EK anymore.

Edit
I may need to eat my words on the EK vow, as so far its the only company I've seen with a compatible waterblock.

I've got a full front/back EK waterblock for my 3090. Seems to be a good design. Won't know how well it cools the GPU until I get the system finished.

So much to do, so little time to do it.

Looks like the EVGA 3070 FTW3 versions of the EK Quantum vector and the Alpha cool Eisblock Aurora will fit, though reviews I've seen of the Eisblock mention problems with cooling the ram.
