I would not be surprised if this was the case for ray tracing performance, but in general I remain in the will see when it launches and get's tested camp

Well, being that the GTX1070Ti is faster than the GTX 980 and the RTX 3070Ti is faster than the RTX 2080Ti, I don't see this so far fetched.

Not sure you can really put anything into a name when trying to compare across generations. Like always, it all comes down to price vs performance, no matter what name they give it. I know a lot of people get hung up on the naming convention, but both companies play fast and loose with that, knowing full well that they can (and have) abuse it at times to their advantage.
